William H. Gurley, DDS, MS

Dr. Gurley received his degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: his BA in 1967 with Honors in Psychology; his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1971; his Masters of Science in Orthodontics in 1981. In the interim between his dental and orthodontic degrees he served in the Air Force, including a year in Southeast Asia. Upon his return he invested two years in private dental practice before returning to UNC Dental School as a full-time assistant professor for three years. He entered the orthodontic program in 1978 for two years of study followed by one year as a research fellow. He continued with the orthodontic department as a part-time instructor for six years.

Dr. Gurley opened his practice in Raleigh in 1981, relocating to Cary in 1983 when his partnership with Dr. Hall was formed. In the ensuing years Dr. Gurley has treated hundreds of children and adults. He feels the success of this practice is a testimony to the years of dedicated and professional healthcare delivery, punctuated by a love for his patients and staff.

Dr. Gurley’s professional accomplishments and activities include:

  • Recipient of the UNC Dental School Faculty Appreciation Award
  • Recipient of the UNC Orthodontic Alumni Research Award
  • Member: American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, NC Association of Orthodontists and the Southern Association of Orthodontists

Dr. Gurley is married to Dr. June Atkinson who now serves as Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of North Carolina.


David J. Hall, DDS, MS
After more than 25 years of teaching and private practice, Dr. Hall retired in December of 2005. As part of a planned retirement transition, Dr. Hall personally selected Dr. Brogden as his successor for treating active and future patients. Dr. Hall remains very close to the practice and continues to be involved as a consultant and friend.

Kelly W. Ritter, DDS, MS

Dr. Ritter is a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She attended college at Penn State University as a Pre-Med major and received early acceptance into the University of North Carolina’s School of Dentistry in 1994 receiving her Doctorate of Dental Surgery with Distinction in 1998. She was given the Alpha Omega Outstanding Dental Student Award for graduating Valedictorian of her dental class.

Dr. Ritter continued her education at UNC, receiving her Masters of Science Degree in Orthodontics in 2001. The orthodontic program at UNC is recognized as being one of the top orthodontic residencies in the world, accepting only 6 applicants from approximately 300 dentist/ applicants each year. During her residency, Dr. Ritter completed her Master’s thesis on the evaluation of facial esthetics and muscular movements in patients with cleft lip and palate. Dr. Ritter’s research has been published in the Cleft Palate & Craniofacial Journal.

Dr. Ritter joined the practice in May of 2001. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and feels privileged to have the chance to make patients feel better about their teeth and smiles.

Dr. Ritter’s professional accomplishments and activities include:

  • Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society
  • Recipient of the Dental Hinman Scholarship
  • Recipient of the Alpha Omega Outstanding Dental Student Award
  • Member: American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, NC Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists and the Raleigh/Wake County Dental Society.

Dr. Ritter and her husband live in Cary with their two daughters. They love being part of this wonderful community.


Reid H. Brogden, DDS, MS

Dr. Brogden moved to North Carolina in 1988 after growing up in Hawaii and Idaho. After graduating with Honors in Psychology from NC State, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Dental School obtaining his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1998. He then worked as a General Dentist for three years before returning to UNC to earn his Masters of Science in Orthodontics.

The orthodontic program at UNC is recognized as being one of the top orthodontic residencies in the world, accepting only 6 applicants from approximately 300 dentist/applicants each year.

Dr. Brogden joined the practice in June of 2004 after being personally selected by Dr. Hall to treat his current and future patients in a planned retirement transition for Dr. Hall. Dr. Brogden has invested in more than 12 years of college, dental and orthodontic education. He remains very interested in continuing education with an emphasis on clinical and technological research.

Dr. Brogden's professional accomplishments and activities include:

  • Board Certification, The American Board of Orthodontics
  • Invisalign® Certified Orthodontist
  • Recipient of the UNC Orthodontic Alumni Research Award
  • Recipient of the Graduate Student Dental Fellowship
  • Dental Officer, United States Navy (1998-2001)
  • Member: American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, NC Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists and the Raleigh/Wake County Dental Society

Dr. Brogden lives with his family in Apex and spends most of his free time with his three children (Caroline, Samuel and Evelyn). His hobbies include golf, tennis, gardening, astronomy and religious study.
