Meet Dr. Brogden

Reid Hunter Brogden, DDS, MS

I have the best job in the world. Orthodontics provides me an opportunity to meet a variety of wonderful people, to excel at a career that I thoroughly enjoy and to help my patients attain a beautiful, healthy smile. Helping a child's self-confidence grow and seeing an adult start to smile much more often are the best aspects of what I do. I truly enjoy being a part my patients' lives, and I continually appreciate the daily opportunity to see the positive progression of my efforts.

Education and Continuing Education

Before becoming an orthodontist, I attained my B.A. in Psychology, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from North Carolina State University (1992). I then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (1998). After proudly serving for 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Navy as a General Dentist, I returned to Chapel Hill for my Masters of Science in Orthodontics (2004).

Although my formal education is complete, I spend much of my time reading orthodontic research journals or attending continuing education courses. I love what I do, and always want to provide the most advanced treatments for my patients. During my residency, my thesis investigated the applicability of 3-D virtual study models and the potential of using this technology as a replacement for traditional dental plaster casts. I was awarded the UNC Orthodontic Alumni Research Award for this research. I always complete more hours annually of continuing orthodontic education than is required by my profession, and I see my career as a lifelong learning opportunity and commitment.

In the Practice

I take great pride in my work and utilize a checklist approach to make certain that every attention to detail is evaluated in a timely manner. It is extremely rewarding to see my patients' proud smiles after orthodontic treatment, and I always enjoy getting to know my patients and their families personally. It is extremely important to me for my patients to feel very comfortable with their treatment progression. I believe our patients should smile all the way through orthodontic treatment, not just at the end!

Family Life

I grew up in Hawaii and Idaho and came to North Carolina to attend college closer to my grandparents who lived in Wilmington, NC. My wife, Rebecca, and I live in Apex with our three children Caroline, Samuel and Evelyn. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, golf, tennis, reading, travel, and, of course, spending time with my wonderful family. I am also active in our community, and I am a regular supporter of multiple local and national charitable causes.
